Everything is Sacred (or why I'm an artist)

Picture
I'm sure we've all had an experience of sensing the Divine in nature or in the smile of another person.  But I'm sure we've also had times where we've sensed that moment of transcendence in a piece of art, a poem, a selection of music, a story.  My theater teacher in college used to call this moment of transcendence  - an annunciation, or an announcement of an incarnation.  Love, God, Beauty, Truth - all incarnated within something concrete.  Something right in front of us.  In that way, nothing is profane.  Even an ugly wall in the middle of a Roman alleyway has the potential to be the incarnate reality of the Divine. And the subject matter here doesn't make it so.  All Truth is God's Truth.  All Beauty is drawn from an eternal spring.  All Love points towards the Divine Spark in all of us.
